This exquisite antique 14-carat gold lady’s fob pocket watch is a stunning example of Swiss precision and ornamental design. Its deep cobalt blue enamel case exudes timeless sophistication, complemented by a regal rose-cut diamond fleur-de-lis motif adorning the case back.

The front features a beautifully detailed enamel dial in matching cobalt blue, elegantly accented with gilt Arabic numerals and a subsidiary seconds dial. Inside, the watch houses a fully jewelled Swiss lever escapement movement—unsigned but an undeniable testament to 19th-century precision watchmaking. It currently keeps accurate time within 1–2 minutes per day and benefits from a fast/slow lever within the movement for further accuracy.

Case and Markings
The inside of the case back reveals the Swiss squirrel assay mark, verifying its 14-carat gold purity, along with the “14K” stamp, the maker’s mark “AW,” and the serial number 875269.

The cuvette—a secondary cover protecting the movement—features the word “cuivre,” indicating its copper composition. This additional layer serves as a dust cover, preserving the mechanism over time.

Movement and Condition
The movement showcases intricate damaskeening—the wave-like engraved patterns that became popular in Swiss and American watches during the late 19th century. Visible ruby jewel bearings, designed to reduce friction and enhance accuracy, further underscore the quality of this timepiece. The lack of a visible signature was not uncommon for Swiss pocket watches, particularly those produced for export or private-label markets.

The enamel remains in exceptional condition, with only minor loss of gold plating on the crown, subtly revealing the sturdy base metal beneath. The original acrylic has been replaced with a new glass screen to ensure longevity and preserve its beauty.

Given the overall design and components within the movement, and of course, the various hallmarks, this pocket watch most likely dates to the late 19th century, approximately the 1880s to 1900s.

Setting and Winding Instructions

  • To set the time: With the watch face facing you, pull the crown up until it clicks twice, then twist it clockwise.
  • To wind the watch: Pull the crown up until it clicks/releases once, then twist it anti-clockwise. Take care not to overwind—when the crown becomes stiff, the watch is fully wound. After winding or setting, push the crown back into place.

With its exceptional craftsmanship, exquisite design, and remarkable condition, this pocket watch is a fabulous find. Perfect for collectors and antique jewellery enthusiasts, it serves as a timeless testament to the Swiss horological artistry of the late 19th century.
